BABIES’ PROBLEMS
Colic
Wind is a real problem and causes much discomfort in babies. A baby’s smile is often caused by wind. Blueness around the mouth can be a sign of wind.
The size of the hole in the teat of a bottle needs to be right. If it is too large or small your baby will suck and swallow air. This wind builds up in the stomach and causes pain.
Most mothers experiment and find the best way to burp baby but sometimes there is still a problem.
A little peppermint tea will help expel the wind and settle baby’s stomach. Dill tea is also recommended.
SUPPLEMENT
peppermint tea 10 to 20 ml up to three times a day
or dill tea or when required for wind
Nappy rash
One of the many problems suffered by babies is nappy rash. Teething or a wet nappy can cause a rash which can be very irritating. Babies cry with pain. Powders made up at home can be helpful. One of them is cornflour and zinc oxide. You can buy these ingredients from your chemist and mix them together. It is an old remedy and is very soothing. ,
Another thing you can use is apricot kernel oil mixed with vitamin E, or an apricot E oil. When applied to the rash it can ease the irritation.
Nappy rash can also be caused by a problem with the diet. Sometimes thrush or Candida albicans can cause it and if that is the case, Lactobacillus acidophilus can be of benefit. Lactobacillus acidophilus can be found in natural yoghurts. Also, if it is a Candida albicans problem (thrush), a little tea-tree oil applied to the area can help kill the infection but it must be diluted and is best diluted in glycerine.
SUPPLEMENTS
One third tea-tree oil and two-thirds glycerine, applied externally with a cotton bud.
Multivitamins for children as directed (crush and put in food).
