A MAN’S ORGASM
Physical response As the engorged reproductive glands spurt out their contents into the part of the urethra that runs through the prostate, expanding it as they do so, exquisitely pleasant sensations are produced. A series of four or five contractions, at the rate of one every 0.8 seconds, follows as the man ejaculates the semen in store.
Some men tend to have extremely powerful physical reactions during their orgasms: they may moan and groan, contort their faces and bodies and sometimes even scare their partners by their cataclysmic reactions. On the other hand, there are men who have very tranquil, quiet orgasms, leaving their partners wondering whether they have come at all. Most men probably experience a range of intensities between these two extreme reactions.
Types We’re just beginning to discover that like women, men have a variety of orgasms with the added differences that different patterns of ejaculation can provide. There is no right way for a man to ejaculate or to have an orgasm.
Often the main source of pleasure is a powerful ejaculation. On the other hand, the sensations of orgasm may be felt for a long time with the ejaculation experience almost as an anti-climax. On other occasions a man may experience several continued orgasmic sensations long after he has ejaculated, or he may experience a pattern similar to the multiple orgasms of women – a series of fairly closely spaced mini-orgasms with ejaculation occurring at the last.
Multiple orgasm After a major orgasm most men experience a refractory period during which further sexual stimulation will not lead to an erection. Many males below the age of 30, however, have the ability to ejaculate frequently with only short resting periods. While men are resistant to sexual stimuli immediately after ejaculation, with practice and learned control, many men can extend their sexual cycles and enjoy several mini-orgasms before a final climax.
After experiencing orgasm a man’s emotional reactions generally tend to reflect the relationship that he has with his partner. Feelings of satisfaction, contentment and happiness usually result from a loving relationship, while sadness, depression and a drained feeling frequently follow where intimacy and understanding are lacking, as in one night stands. The majority of men, too, often feel mentally exhausted after orgasm, with the common result that sleep readily ensues.
